Stolen glances and surreptitious fantasies #4

2021, 5 in x 7 in.
Casein on paper
$100, unframed

I don’t know about you, but I find certain casual moments to be surprisingly charged. A subtle gesture, a moment of relaxation or boredom, becomes a lightning strike that starts a fire in the gazer’s imagination.

Let sleeping giants awake

2021, 16 in. x 12 in. (22 in. x 17 in. with frame)
Oil on paper
$200

Western classical art, from ancient Greece through today, is replete with veiled eroticism. While I’m all for suggestion and innuendo, I also like the idea using the classical style but with less coyness.

I left the veil on this one as I like how feeble, or facetious, attempts at decorum enhance the eroticism.

White Tara

2019, 17 in. x 11 in.
Watercolor and ink on paper
$100, unframed

A “thangka” painting using traditional Tibetan Buddhist iconography, but with more modern materials. Thangkas serve a both instructional material and aids to meditation and visualization.

White Tara is the embodiment of universal compassion and wisdom. Meditating on her image helps us unlock those same qualities within ourselves and manifest them in the world around us.

Handful #3

2019, 15 in. x 11 in.
Watercolor on paper

Part of a series of highly erotic images exploring the subtle and not so subtle gestures we make during such moments.

It’s as much about what the hands are doing as it is about what they’re holding. Not to mention why and how.

Note: this image has been edited for public display here. The original is considerably more explicit. I think I can rely on you, dear viewer, to fill in the gaps.

Beloved and God #4

2020, 7 in. x 10 in.
Gouache on paper

Part of a series of paintings inspired by the history and legend of Antinous during the early Roman empire. Surviving statuary is breathtakingly consistent in depictions of his beauty.

Here I explore beauty as a call to both worship and obedience—however hard we might try to resist this tendency. A tiny bit of modern leather imagery mixed with the classical bridges the past and present.

The title of this series in an homage to the spectacular work of scholarship by Royston Lambert.
