Lavender Menace: Taking Flight
I'm all about sexy heroes who have sex (and let us watch!). Thinking beyond the sex, I also want to give some space and breathing room to ideas of super powers that are anti-militaristic, anti-capitalist, and anti-fascist. The images and ideas that power the super powers depicted in most comics--and comics-derived media--ultimately prop up the status quo, regardless of what the heroes in question may say or do. Most of the time, they're cops in tights.
Wile I love a man in tights, how about we drop the copoganda? I want this book to be a messy exploration of the still messy ideas of restorative justice and if not total police abolition, at least an idea of how things could happen without them. We have the power to imagine different ways of dealing with conflict and realizing those ideas first in stories, then, hopefully, in real life.
Taking Flight is an ongoing project. I'm posting chapters periodically until the book is finished. What happens then is anybody's guess. I don't have a publisher lined up currently, but that could change as the books grows closer to completion. If nothing else, I will certainly self-publish. Looking even further into the future: this if the first in a planned trilogy of graphic novels about queer power and queers and with powers. There might be tights involved, too.
